- Google can’t be subjective in ranking it’s Knol articles in search queries. With Knol, Google is moving away from being an index of the world’s content to being a content provider itself.
- Wikipedia is millions of pages ahead of Knol in content.
It seems like Google had a sobering realization that they’re driving so much traffic to Wikipedia for free and thought, “Hey, we can offer the same service, but with text ads!” It also wouldn’t surprise me if many of the “experts” posting articles on Knol borrow heavily from content on Wikipedia.
