I was sold this herb/natural sweetener called Stevia at a small specialty tea shop, and it’s delicious with tea. In fact, it’s so good that I had to look up it’s Wikipedia page. Turns out the FDA has labeled it an “unsafe food additive” and made it illegal to sell or import Stevia in the US, despite any significant evidence of harmful effects on humans. Think the lobby for the artificial sweeteners industry has anything to do with that?
Side note: Stevia is native to Central/South America, but has been extremely popular as a sweetener in China and Japan since the 1970’s.
