What are the implications for SEO following Google’s rollout of personal search?

Natan Gesher: Nothing changes from yesterday to today in an immediate or even noticeable way.

But over time, Google is doing everything it can to change what search is, and how people use and experience search, into something that wouldn’t have been recognizable some years ago.

For some things, personalized search is better, but for some things it’s worse. It’s not only professional SEOs who want “clean” results. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some small but vocal pushback against search personalization - if not now, then within a year - as people find the results to be less useful than “clean” results.

Overall, I think Google+ contributes nothing and I think the world would not be a worse place if it were to disappear. As an SEO, I would have signed up for it in any case. But now I feel compelled to recommend its use, even for people and/or businesses who don’t really gain anything from using it. That’s a shame
